Presidents News

Good morning members,

It's been a great start to the year for our club, with great golf events including the Ladies Classic and pennants. Please read the following reports for a complete rundown of the club's achievements.

Our junior membership continues to thrive including some great achievements in junior girls golf. We have now in excess of 105 Junior's and cadets moving through the club which is an outstanding result by Tony Calleja and his team of helpers. From a purely personal perspective having joined a golf club at 13, I can recommend "the golfing life" to all our juniors. It's a game for life!

Our new bunkers on 12,13 and 15 are now in play. The base and consistency are excellent having "visited" them in recent games at the club. We will continue this program for the remaining bunkers when cash and the weather allow. Also the path program for the course to make it more weather tolerant will continue. As I mentioned at the AGM, we have $10 million in backlog capital projects. We need to keep pushing these through to ensure that our club continues to be the best it can be.

Membership numbers continue to be reviewed every month as we now have in excess of 1300 golfing members in all golfing categories. With new members transferring from other clubs on the coast to us to enjoy our course we have opened up more golfing competition times to ensure everyone gets a game.

Our new menu in the restaurant is now available and we will be having weekly specials over and above the menu that is on display.

Finally, remember you need to use your Ball and Competition credits by 30 June and what better time to enjoy a nice meal at the club. You can also use them to buy drinks and spend them in the pro shop. Some great specials are there at present, so grab yourself a bargain.

Till next month

Good Golfing

President

Wyong Junior Golf Foundation

The Central Coast Junior Pennant competition has come and gone with our Juniors finishing in the top half of the ladder against some outstanding competition. The Junior golfing talent on the Central Coast is very strong and a credit to all the Clubs for nurturing and supporting our local Juniors.

Our club members and management have shown they are vested in supporting our Wyong Juniors, and this year's improved performance reflected this support. Well done to all our Junior Pennant players and thank you to all our members and pro-shop staff for your valued support.

Big shout out to Ben Ward from A 'Ward Roofing for assisting with our Junior Pennant team uniforms. Our Juniors looked great and backed it up with some great golf.

Many of our Juniors will have the opportunity to compete in the Jack Newton Junior Program (JNJP) which is a fun day for all Juniors of all ages and abilities. We will circulate when these events are being held so our Juniors can consider entering these events.

PENNANT SERIES AND STERLAND SHIELD

Wyong Golf Club Pennant teams have had an excellent series, with A grade finishing first being undefeated throughout the series. B grade finished in second place by a point and C grade finished in a tie for second place. As a result of this outstanding performance Wyong Golf Club has won the coveted Sterland Shield. Congratulations to all the players involved in this achievement, you are a credit not only to yourselves but also to the club.  Thanks goes to all the members who came out and supported the teams throughout the series, it is appreciated. Also, many thanks to Ben Ward for his continued generous sponsorship of all our Pennant Teams.

Wyong Golf Club Ladies

Louise continues to perform brilliantly in Open Senior events, most recently winning the NSW Seniors Foursomes Medal with Gemma Dooley at Pacific Dunes Golf Club. Following on to this Louise was narrowly defeated in the final of the NSW Senior Amateur at Nelson Bay Golf Club. Congratulations on these outstanding achievements Louise, your performance in these events is a credit to you and is appreciated by the club.

Course Update

The golf course has made it through another summer, with all playing surfaces holding up well despite the warm, humid conditions.

You may have noticed some bleached white patches on a few greens-this is a result of a new product we're trialling to control couch grass. While it's part of the process, we're closely monitoring its effectiveness.

Work on the next stage of the Parry Plan is well underway. The 12th and 13th bunkers are currently under construction, and we're all looking forward to seeing the final result. The 15th bunker will be next in line.

During these works, 10A will be in play for mid-week competitions to ensure minimal disruption.

Looking forward to seeing everyone out on the course!

Kent Smith

Course Superintendent.

Pace of Play

Despite some improvement, the pace of play continues to be a problem, and with winter months coming, resulting in less daylight, speed of play is even more important. Here are some tips that hopefully will help the situation.

PLAY READY GOLF -the shorter hitters in the group should hit of first

- be ready to play your shot ASAP and be prepared to play out of turn if other members in your group are delayed. For example, if someone is raking the bunker players in the group can have their putts, saving time

- If you lose ground on the group in front, then the first player to putt out proceeds to next to pick up the pace.

These are just three simple ways to quicken play. Remember the pace of play is EVERY MEMBERS RESPONSIBILITY.  Finally, your group's position in the field is not dictated by how far you are in front of the group behind you, but by how far the group in front of you

No Show Policy:

If you or another member has put your name on the time sheet, it is your responsibility if you are not playing to cancel your name out by either crossing name out on the timesheet (available till 5am the morning of) or ringing the pro shop on the morning 1 hour prior to tee time.

The following penalties apply for breaching these rules:

First offence: 1 week suspension from all competitions
Second offence: 2 weeks suspension from all competitions
Third offence: Face the board for further disciplinary action from board
Note: Suspensions will start from 1 day after the breach
