Presidents News

Good morning members

We've just been through May, where the weather wreaked havoc on our course and trading. Then we had June, which had reasonable weather throughout, giving us all our "fix" of golf.

And now, as I sit here writing this newsletter item, our weather gurus are saying we are in for an East Coast low with huge rains. All we need is a few months to get on with our paths and other projects to keep improving our course. Continuous improvement is what we are aiming for in everything we do.

Membership renewal time has been progressing well, and we have also had another influx of new members in June. Both golfing and other category members are still joining the club and we will be monitoring our golfing numbers very closely to ensure that we don't overfill our golfing categories.

Craig Jackes and Dave Cann are settling into their new roles very well, and we expect there will be no significant gaps in services during this transition period.

Over the next two months, we will be having focus groups to discuss a new draft Constitution. Our "old" constitution has become out of date with many changes to the legislation and regulations. So we have spent over 12 months redrafting the details in conjunction with our legal advisors. Members will have a general meeting called to discuss and hopefully approve the new constitution. This requirement is part of legislation to ensure all members are informed of the changes and understand the changes.

To everyone, hopefully good weather and good golfing over the next month.

  • NEW MEMBERS

A warm welcome to all the new members who have joined our great club in recent months. We hope that you enjoy not only the golf course, but also all the facilities that the club has to offer and the friendship of the members as well. We hope you have a great time.

  • GOLDEN OLDIES

We would like to mention four of our long-term members, who continue to regularly play golf at our course, even though they are now in their nineties. Congratulations to Noel DAVIDSON, John CHARKER, Jeanne BROKKE and Lea HOLTKAMP. You are an inspiration to all our members.

  • SHOOTING LESS THAN YOUR AGE

On Saturday, 29th June, our evergreen Jack Parker had 43 points with a handicap of 8. This is a one-over-par round of 72, which is quite outstanding considering Jack is turning 85 years old (or should we say young) in October. This means that he shot 12 strokes less than his age score included a run of 4 birdies in the space of 5 holes. Congratulations, Jack, on an outstanding round of golf.

  • MASTERS PENNANTS

Our Master's Pennant team won their division this year, placing them in the last 16 teams in the state out of 80 teams that started the competition across the state. On Sunday, 29th June, they played Shelley Beach Golf Club in the first knockout round. Unfortunately, they were beaten by a better side on the day. Congratulations to all the players involved in the team. Thank you for your efforts throughout the competition. You have represented the club admirably, and we are proud of your efforts.

  • NEW WORK.

The 10th green has undergone some major drainage work and is nearing completion. It will be out of action for 2 to 3 weeks, depending on the weather. Thanks to Kent and his staff for their efforts.

The path on the 13th hole is well underway, thanks to Geoff Sanders for the progress he made on this project.

Ladies News

The Pennant season is coming to an end with the final round to be played at Mangrove Mountain on Monday. Wyong Ladies team is fourth on the leaderboard with 3 wins and 3 losses. Everglades is going strong with 6 straight wins.

After being postponed in May & June, the Vets Country Championships will be held on Thursday July 3rd in conjunction with Club Medals. Other missed events have been included into the Calendar over the next 6 weeks.

Congratulations to Susan Martin who has won the Division 1 Knockout.

Division 2 are continuing to battle it out after weather delays.

Pace of Play

Despite some improvement, the pace of play continues to be a problem, and with winter months coming, resulting in less daylight, speed of play is even more important. Here are some tips that hopefully will help the situation.

PLAY READY GOLF -the shorter hitters in the group should hit of first

- be ready to play your shot ASAP and be prepared to play out of turn if other members in your group are delayed. For example, if someone is raking the bunker players in the group can have their putts, saving time

- If you lose ground on the group in front, then the first player to putt out proceeds to the next tee to pick up the pace.

These are just three simple ways to quicken play. Remember the pace of play is EVERY MEMBERS RESPONSIBILITY.  Finally, your group's position in the field is not dictated by how far you are in front of the group behind you, but by how far the group in front of you

If you or another member has put your name on the time sheet, it is your responsibility if you are not playing to cancel your name out by either crossing name out on the timesheet (available till 5am the morning of) or ringing the pro shop on the morning 1 hour prior to tee time.

The following penalties apply for breaching these rules:
